Did I ever mention that I work for a pretty cool company?
I'm not talking about the corporate giant of RE/MAX International. I'm talking about the grass-roots division, owned by Ken McLachlan and Debra Bain. The local franchise that I work for, Ken, Debra (and myself) are BIG fans of 'giving back' or 'paying it forward' or whatever you want to call it.
Here's what makes this Toronto Scholarship different than all the others.
Ken and Deb would like to foster opportunities for 'game-changers'. Not just high IQ kids, but students with higher than average EQ's (Empathy) as well. Students that may some day be in positions of influence and who just might change the world for the better.
That means the scholarship recipients usually have some kind of community involvement such as volunteering, leadership roles, fundraising, or involvement in a student organization. Just as an example, one recipient taught swimming to handicapped kids at summer camp.
Toronto Scholarships for High School Seniors Only
Apparently the funding for first-year post secondary makes the biggest difference to whether or not a student will graduate with a degree or diploma. As an Broker at RE/MAX Hallmark I get to offer a generous and unique scholarship opportunity to clients with sons and daughters entering their first year of post-secondary education.
I am proud to say that in just a few years, RE/MAX Hallmark (that's Ken and Debra) has awarded $35,000 in scholarships to help ease the first year cost of university and college tuitions.
This year, RE/MAX Hallmark is offering awards totalling $15,000 to be divided amongst the most deserving applicants. There's no predetermined ceiling on the number of applicants who are eligible to receive a scholarship, and as I said above, the eligibility doesn't just depend on academic achievement.
How can you apply for a RE/MAX Hallmark Scholarship?
The deadline to apply for one of the RE/MAX Hallmark Toronto Scholarships for High School Seniors is March 31, 2011 (but may be extended) and the awarded money will be directed to the post-secondary education of choice. (This award is now open to our Muskoka office clientelle as well!)
I'm proud to say that one my clients has a daughter who received the scholarship award in 2008!
I encourage all RE/MAX Hallmark clients, no matter how long ago you bought or sold your home or who you worked with, to call or drop me a line if your child is eligible to apply and I will be happy forward an application form.
Best of luck to all who apply!
