East Lynn Park Farmers' Market in Danforth Village

September 20, 2010

Danforth Village / Danforth Mosaic / Danforth East - The East Lynn Farmers Market

East Lynn Farmers Market in Toronto's Danforth Village

Every Thursday from June - October. 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. East Lynn Park. South of Danforth, West of Woodbine

What's better than St. Lawrence Market for fresh produce? Well, for those of us in East End Toronto, we're lucky to have our very own East Lynn Farmers’ Market, hosted at East Lynn Park in Danforth Village / East Danforth. Running every Thursday, rain or shine, from June - October, local farmers and vendors set up stalls for seasonal fruits, vegetables, flowers and prepared foods. Here's a small sampling of what it looks like.

Nurture with Nature. There is something about being outside in the fresh air picking out good food that makes you feel healthier, before you even take a bite.  Vendors and customers at the East Lynn Farmers Market know that locally grown produce is a better choice than grocery store produce. There's no extra mark-up for distribution, it's minimally processed (i.e. not gassed, irradiated, waxed or genetically altered), is fresher = better tasting, and has more of all the good stuff you should be eating, like vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants.

Seasonal and sensational. It just makes sense that the best tasting produce comes from the farm to table in as little time as possible, and in the right season. Strawberries in June, blueberries in July, tomatoes in August, pumpkin and squash in September, pears and peppers in October. Each month of our Ontario growing season brings new, delicious and super-fresh delights. You can find all of these seasonal delights at the East Lynn Farmers Market all summer long!

What the heck is a watermelon radish (and what do you do with it)? At the Danforth Village East Lynn Farmers’ Market you’ll find an amazing array of produce that you don’t see in your average supermarket; red carrots, a rainbow of heirloom tomatoes, green garlic, watermelon radishes and more. Not only do farmers who visit the East Lynn Farmers Market grow produce, they eat it as well. Ask the farmers and vendors for recipe ideas, how they grow their fruit and vegetables and any other questions that might come to mind. This is their livelihood and they are passionate about it and love to share that passion with others.

Greener and leaner. Buy directly from the Danforth Village / East Lynn Park Farmers’ Market and you put money back into the local economy, support Ontario family farms, and drastically reduce unnecessary packaging- and the resultant trash.  And if you need one more reason...

Kid’s Corner and Coffee Corner. Listen to some music and enjoy a cup of fair trade brew while the kids enjoy fun activities like face painting.
