It’s time for the 24th Annual Beaches Spring Sprint
To some, our Spring Sprint celebrates the arrival of warmer weather and outdoor living, but it’s real purpose is to raise money for the widely-used Beaches Rec Centre.
Community Focal Point
Many Torontonians see The Beaches as a great place for weekend recreation at the Boardwalk or Woodbine Beach. But for me, it's the community infrastructure and our sense of shared values that make it a great place to live year round.
The Beaches Rec Centre is a huge part of that community identity and it's used by just about everyone at one time or another.
The Beaches Spring Sprint Supports These Beach Rec Centre Programs
As you might expect, the main programs are targeted towards Preschool and school-aged children. Depending on the day and time, you could find fine art, guitar, or hip hop dance lessons. We even donated our gently used 'half-pipe' so the skateboarders would have a place to ride indoors. And there are plenty of adult programs as well - cardio, yoga, Tai-Chi, basketball and volleyball and lots more.
Details and How To Participate
The Beaches Spring Sprint 2011 is just one of the many Beach community events that bring neighbours together for a common cause. This alone makes it a wonderful event to participate in. I'm sad to say I won't be running or walking this year, since I'm sporting a cast on a broken ankle.
What is it? The spring spring is a 5KM run/walk for adults & seniors, a 2KM run for children, and a 2KM walk for seniors.
