Danforth Village / Danforth Mosaic / East Danforth are considered affordable neighbourhoods - for now. They have a lot of the same housing stock as The Beaches, Leslieville, and Riverdale, but priced at a considerable discount. So it's no surprise that up and coming first time buyers are flocking to this neighbourhood in droves.
Although the neighbourhood stretches a considerable distance from Greenwood to Victoria Park, the Danforth Subway line provides an easy solution to the morning and afternoon commute. All the Danforth Communities are an easy ride to downtown, from just about any part of the area. And that's a good thing, since so many Danforth homeowners work somewhere in the Downtown area.
In fact, a lot of Buyers are choosing Danforth Village over the Beaches (including Upper Beaches) specifically because of subway access to downtown. First time buyers will often describe their search area as "anywhere in the East End that's a 10 or 15 minute walk to the subway." For some people, not having to wait for the bus is a luxury.
Let's not forget that if you're a 10 minute walk to Main Station, it's only another couple of minutes over the hill to the Danforth GO Station, which can have you downtown in 15 minutes, stopping at Union Station.
Of course, if you're not headed downtown, you can go by bus:
- from Main Station to the Beaches in 15 minutes
- from Woodbine station the other end of the Beaches in 15 minutes
- from Greenwood or Coxwell station to Monarch Park in about 5 minutes
- from Victoria Park Station to the Beaches Fairway driving range in 5 minutes
